The Dic Dan Files
A record of power misused and people silenced
Below is a growing list of actions and decisions made under Daniel Andrews’ leadership that reflect a pattern of control, secrecy, and disregard for public welfare. These are the reasons so many now refer to him as “Dic Dan” — a Premier who ruled more like a dictator than a servant of the people.
Key Dictator-Like Actions by Daniel Andrews
Unprecedented Lockdowns
Victoria endured 262 days of lockdown — the longest cumulative lockdown in the world. Many restrictions were imposed without clear or consistent health advice, and extended far beyond what other states or countries implemented.
Curfews and Police Enforcement
A night-time curfew was introduced despite Victoria Police stating they did not request or recommend it. Police were empowered to issue fines, enter homes, and physically restrain citizens — including the arrest of a pregnant woman in her home over a Facebook post.
Censorship and Silencing Dissent
Critics, journalists, and even elected MPs were publicly attacked or dismissed. Protesters were vilified and met with aggressive police tactics including rubber bullets and tear gas.
Economic Devastation
Thousands of small businesses were forced to close, many permanently. Mental health crises surged across the state, with reports of increased suicides, particularly among young people and the isolated.
Hotel Quarantine Disaster
A hotel quarantine program, run without proper oversight, led to hundreds of deaths during Victoria’s second wave. Despite a $195 million inquiry, no individuals or departments were ever held accountable.
The Car Accident Cover-Up
In 2013, a vehicle carrying Andrews and his wife struck a teenage cyclist. Serious allegations of a police cover-up have emerged, including the failure to conduct a breath test and allowing the Premier to leave in an unroadworthy vehicle. Despite public concern, no proper investigation has been conducted.
Lack of Transparency
Throughout his leadership, Andrews consistently refused to release key documents or health advice underpinning major decisions. He departed office with a significant taxpayer-funded pension, without ever facing accountability for the outcomes of his policies.

Why We Remember
These events are not isolated missteps — they are symptoms of a leadership style that prioritised control over compassion, and secrecy over service.
The Dic Dan Files exist to preserve the truth.
So that future leaders understand:
the people are watching — and we do not forget.
